Samaba? In Finland? In the rain? Orginal image.

With a bit more wobble and flounce than Austraila

Brazilian Thermometers Samba North Too

When you whack your head on enough nails, eventually you decide to build a hammer. now a have a hammer, and I’m whacking the world with it. First you do it by hand. Then you automate some bits but have a lot of hand feeding. Eventually you put in the prompts and flexibility to have a general tool. And now I have a general tool to let me inspect thermometer migrations for any country. Feed it a country code, get the plot. You still need to pick your 1/4 of the globe of interest, and the final edit is done by hand for “pretty printing”, but as of now, I have a hammer, and I’m out to “nail” the world…

I glanced at New Zealand, and they have a bit of northern migration. I’ll come back to them in another posting. Then I took a look at Brazil. Their thermometers migrate to the equator too. There is a bit more of a Samba Swivel of the midsection to it, but North they do go! In this case, the latitude bands are still from south on your left to the equator on your right, but everything is shifted up 10 degrees from the Australia case. There is a warming of the record in the early years, then when the thermometers stabilize, a dead flat temperature “trend”. If there is “Global Warming”, it isn’t in Brazil.

If anyone want’s the detail that was done for Australia, let me know. (Station Names, by year adds / deletes, what makes it through STEP2 unscathed and scathed…) I can provide it, but frankly, I think this is the “money quote”. It’s the 25S that tends to shrink and the 15S / 10S that tend to gain. Center of the Amazon Rain Forest any warmer than Porto Alegre and Rio de Janeiro? I thought you would under stand…

Oh, and I left in the decade summaries. If they are more distraction then merit, I can delete them.

One Response to GHCN – Brazil Sambas North

  1. PeterA says:

According to NASA’s latest global temperature anomaly data ( http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/graphs/ ) the world is still warming and we haven’t had any cooling over the past few years. This is despite the satellite data showing cooling. I get the impression here, perhaps mistakenly, that land based temperature measuring stations are being dropped off the list relatively more in the colder regions and new ones are being added relatively more in the warmer ones. Is this what’s actually happening? If true then this is amazing to say the least. Why aren’t scientists ringing alarm bells? Is this another hockey stick in the making?
