No sé por qué me gusta Oreja de Van Gogh

pero sí…

(I don’t know why I like “Van Gogh’s Ear”… but I do…)

So I was deep into American Country & Western… and somehow or other a Spanish link showed up… I more or less speak Spanish and really like the music, so clicked a link. Or two.. and found myself listening to the following music by “Van Gogh’s Ear” or “La Oreja de Van Gogh”… y Me Gusta…

What can I say? Me Gusta, eso es todo… A little bit of cerveza y soy hispana… or maybe, o tal vez, es la música …

It’s a strange thing growing up in two cultures, but I did. Well, three, really… Mum was British. Dad American. And I spent a lot of years immersed in Hispanic at a friends home. (Still have a great fondness of salsa verde…) So what am I? Typical American Mutt. Had a crush on a Chinese American girl in high school who had that hots for an African American guy who.. well, you get the idea. We, my generation, just didn’t give a damn about all the crap our parents were worried about. We were all “of a time”. Now our kids are even more so (since most of them are boundary spanners of one sort or another – mine span the Catholic / Protestant and English / Irish and German / {rest of Europe} ;-) “issues”… )

At any rate, I find that “greatest hits” ( Grandes Exitos ) album oddly compelling… pero yo no sé por qué. El plomo vocal femenino sin aliento, o alguna conexión cultural o … Is it just the breathless female vocal lead? Or some other, deeper cultural connection? Yo no se…

tal vez es sólo la cerveza … pero no.. I’ve had lots of beer before and not had a “Hispanic Moment”… Helpful, but not sufficient…

Ah well, so it goes…

Or maybe it’s just that English is as foreign as any other language to my Celtic roots and one language is as good as another when a redhead is singing in it… ;-)

The Celtic Thread ™ shines through, it matters not what language or “culture” is claiming to be “in charge”. We just are… even if long ago the Celtic Root was forgotten. It is still present, even if under the surface… And we connect…

Celts Rule, Romans drool… Regla celtas, romanos baba …

In any language ;-)

    But Chakira´s red head is of a chemical nature….Her original hair is brown.

    @Adolfo:

    So? My spouse has brown, the daughter is a natural red, the gene tunnels… Irish originated in Hispania ( Mil de Espane..)

    and are a mix of reds, blonds, and browns.

    It’s ok for someone to be a ‘red wanna be’ ;-)

    My auburn haired sister talks of the gene emerging every second generation. Several red headed cousins too. In our case one grandmother was auburn.
