Meet & Greet Proposal: W.O.B. Clermont

I’d like to propose a time and location for a “Meet & Greet”.

Time

Sunday August 7 from about Noon-ish until?… Maybe I can make to ’till 5 ;-)

Place:

https://worldofbeer.com/Locations/Clermont

It’s a fairly short trip off the I-75 / Turnpike and about 1/2 way from both the Ocala and Melbourne folks. They have a wide selection of beer for all tastes (plus wine and more) and I tried their Honey BBQ wings and they were good. They could use a bit more spice, but you can always sauce them (or order the spicy wings…) and on Sunday they have a ‘bottomless brunch’ or some such where for $25 you get bottomless Mimosas BeerMosas or some other drink … along with some food ( Available starting from 10 to 2 pm? Something like that… though the waitress said once you ordered it you had bottomless mimosas “all day”… )

So, folks, mull it over. If being “halfway from everywhere” makes it too far for everyone, then I’ll have to “pick a side” and try again. OTOH, if it ‘works’, then more folks can meet each other and have a bit bigger group for fun and conversation.

Any other ideas or proposals also can be considered, if this is just not gonna cut it.

  1. Ralph B says:

    Alas I am out of state till the 12th. Have one or two pints for me. Maybe next time, should you make it back out this way

  2. Tim says:

    With you in spirit (not spirits). Long way from UK

  3. PaulID says:

    AH if only I was nearby being in Idaho though I will probably have to wait until you decide to vacation in Yellowstone which if you do my wife knows the best Chinese places in West Yellowstone Montana (due to the fact that she drove charter buses full of Chinese tourists all over the place there.) so drop a line if you hit this neck of the woods I don’t drink but I love pub food.

  4. John F. Hultquist says:

    I’m in the Great State of Washington.

  5. Gail Combs says:

    Dang, Florida is a wee bit far from NC esp on a weekend when we work…. Darn, Darn Darn.

    Should I link this over to Tony Heller’s for you??

  6. gallopingcamel says:

    I will be on my way to Rainsville, Alabama that day so it will involve a slight detour.

    I will show up early.

  7. andrewsjp says:

    Wish I could be there. But it is a long way from Knoxville, where my proton radiation therapy is ongoing daily now. Painless and not threatening at all. BTW my C.H.I.P. computer is due any day.

  8. Bennett In Vermont says:

    Would love to attend but Vermont up by the border with Quebec is simply way too far away. Enjoy a pint of bitters for me!

  9. timster0 says:

    I’d love too, but it’s just a little too far from Ballarat, AU :-(

  10. p.g.sharrow says:

    Memory of a day spent exchanging thoughts and sharing food and beer with Mr. Smith brings a smile to my day. 8-) Cheers! you all…pg

  11. E.M.Smith says:

    @Gail:

    I expect to be in N.C. in about 2 or 4 month… I’ll holler again when that rolls around.

    No need to link to others. Anyone who comes here often will see it.

    @Timstero, Bennett In Vermont, John F. Hultquist, Paul ID and Tim:

    Well, there will be other M&Gs at other times in other places… This is just one end of the country. I’ll be at the other end in a couple of week. Maybe “next time” I’ll take the high road past Washington, Idaho, etc…

    (UK… that’s a bit harder to drive to… ;-) Almost as hard as the Australia ;-)

    Maybe I’ll make a list of beers from each place and see what WOB can do with it ;-)

    @P.G.Sharrow:

    That Brown Mercedes Sedan 240D we drove around in? It got me to Florida…
    and headed back in it too!

    @Andrewsjp:

    Sorry to hear about the need for rads, but hope it works well so we can do a little happy dance… (Beer optional, but does improve the enthusiasm in a ‘happy dance’ if not the performance ;-0)

    @G.C.

    Well, so far it’s looking like just you and me… So are you going out on the turnpike / I-75? If so, not that far a detour… Take the Clermont exit from the TPike on 50 (to the left on 50), at 27 turn left and it’s a block or two (in a shopping center with the theaters). Then to get back to the TPike, go straight north on 27 and you rejoin it. Basically you take two sides of a right triangle instead of the hypotenuse…

    @Ralph B:

    Well, I ought to be back here again in about October, so we can try again then. Maybe a bit further north that time…

    @All:

    The timing on this trip is constrained by several things, not the least of which is to assure I’m back with the spouse for our anniversary … That kind of limits flexibility. Next trip ought to have much less of such timing issues.

  12. cdquarles says:

    @GC, Rainsville is in one of the most beautiful parts of Sweet Home Alabama. It’s not too far from Guntersville and Fort Payne. Little River Canyon’s nearby, if I’m remembering correctly, to the east of I59. Enjoy visiting the northeastern parts of Sand Mountain. Catch some fish if you have the time.

  13. Glenn999 says:

    E.M.
    World of Beer sounds like a winner. Earlier is best for me, so pick a time, and I’ll be there.

  14. gallopingcamel says:

    Chiefio,
    I note that WOB opens at 1000 hours so I plan to arrive soon after. I will be drinking lemonade as I have another 500+ miles to go after the meet and greet.

    It will be awesome to see you again!

  15. gallopingcamel says:

    cdquarles,
    Rainsville is significantly cooler than the “Space Coast” so the weather will seem delightful. As it is located in a “Dry” county I will be carrying some single malt scotch.

    Sadly I won’t have time to look around or fish. A family emergency is unfolding in Tampa:
    https://www.jqpublicblog.com/retired-centcom-air-force-officer-facing-international-kidnapping-charges/

  16. Ralph B says:

    G-Camel…Don’t know about Rainsville, but where I am in Alabama it is significantly warmer than my part of Florida (gulf side south of Sarasota).

  17. Gail Combs says:

    Sounds great E.M. Just give us a lot of notice so we do not have a gig scheduled on top of the time.

  18. Larry Geiger says:

    I’m in. Probably after 12:00noon. Coming from Cocoa, FL.

  19. E.M.Smith says:

    OK, we are officially “Go!” for a 10 ish start at W.O.B. (though I’m likely to be be non-beer until nearer noon… starting before noon doesn’t agree well with my metabolism). I’ll be staying at least until, oh, 4 PM. (If anyone wants me to be around later, put up a time and I’ll “double dip” ;-)

    So see some of you tomorrow (morning to early evening… as needed ;-)

  20. Verity Jones says:

    EM and Galloping Camel. Have one for me and I’ll try to be there in spirit although I expect to be eating bbq at that time with friends. I owe both of uou replies to emails from ages ago. l
    Lots to say. Life is good.

  21. Larry Ledwick says:

    Well since I am a little over 1800 miles away I don’t think I will make it as nice as it would be to meet some you face to face. Enjoy.
    I will be packing for a vacation trip in the opposite direction so will be on the road myself next week.

  22. E.M.Smith says:

    I’m headed over now. I’ll be the guy who has on light brown / tannish pants, light / sky blue shirt, and with an Indiana Jones hat on the table ;-)

    Perhaps a tablet out if they have wifi – folio if not and by myself…

  23. p.g.sharrow says:

    @EMSmith; Wish I was there but, I will be spending the day here:
    https://pgtruspace.wordpress.com/about/i1035-fw1-1-34/
    above Chico. Maybe a snifter of Blackberry Brandy as a Wave Offering to a delightful outcome for your M&G. Cheers;-)…pg

  24. E.M.Smith says:

    Well , I hope everyone had a good time. They had Pilsner Urquel on tap, so I was happy!

  25. gallopingcamel says:

    I got to see the famous banana boat…..and sat in it too!

    Plenty of food for thought to mull over OTRA (On The Road to Alabama). Here is my nightmare that unfolded when thinking about worst case scenarios.

    The USA becomes a vast beehive complete with a Queen, Drones and Workers.
    QUEEN
    She turned the office of “Secretary of State” into a bonanza for the Clinton foundation. Imagine the greed in this movie magnified by at least an order of magnitude:

    DRONES
    Called Banks, Main Stream Media, Academia, Trade Unions, Trial Lawyers, Big Business, Greenies, the elites of both major political parties and many many more.
    They will continue to serve the queen while getting an even bigger share of the honey.

    WORKERS
    They will continue to see their share of the honey diminish just as it did under Bush and Obama. They are not important any more as the queen can buy honey from foreign worker bees paid for with borrowed money. If the bees get uppity the queen will import even more foreign bees to do their work.

    What could possibly go wrong? My guess is that some parts of the hive may choose to secede starting with TEXIT.

  26. Gail Combs says:

    ” My guess is that some parts of the hive may choose to secede starting with TEXIT.”

    Actually I can see the entire country secede from Washington DC leaving the District of Criminals to fend for themselves.

    Forget building the wall at the Southern border. Instead build it around DC and destroy any aircraft or boats that try to escape.

  27. gallopingcamel says:

    Gail,
    You have to love Texas and Texans. They keep on working in spite of the federal government.

    The USA needs Texas more than Texas needs the USA. Texas needs to make that clear before the federal government usurps any more power.

  28. Glenn999 says:

    Thanks E.M., gallopingcamel, et al for an enjoyable afternoon. We should do this more often!
    If gallopingcamel has time in his busy day, I have a couple of follow-up questions.

    When I have time I will post a question for others to consider based on some of our discussions. Let’s hope that there is still time to affect a positive outcome for our dilemma. Perhaps I’m just a crazy optimist, but I believe in the power of many focused minds working together.

  29. Larry Geiger says:

    We had a good time. Walked through the establishment. Looked over the patrons. Picked out Chief and Glenn999 without knowing anything about the hat and blue shirt :-) Hmmmmmmmmmm.
