I just received a call from this number and got the same message. Claims they are an officer with the IRS and says you owe money and I need a lawyer. This is a SCAM. I hope people do some research before calling this number back
Caller: 855-288-0080
With crap like that, why ought I service voice mail fast?… But that above describes what folks get.
And that’s exactly what the ‘ol voice mail had. A “computer generated” robotic voice saying this was a message from Officer Bob or Robert or some such at the IRS and I better call back or have my lawyer call.
Well, as I have “a guy on retainer” for all things IRS, and he has my power of attorney, and a direct login to the IRS, and and and… and I’m supposed to just punt all things IRS to him … needless to say the only thing their robo call did was get me to check that it was crap spam.
So, dear 855-288-0080, please contact My Guy. He’ll clean up whatever issues are our there, and will clean your clock too…
The same scam is running in Australia.

Yes, but they haven’t yet got it really tuned to local conditions. Which allows entertainment if you have the time to make their call more expensive
Yeah we had the scum call us the other day.
Interesting – are you the common factor E.M.? I too have had a similar call (In Australia). Snopes was useful in avoiding action. My favourite is when they tall me they are calling from Microsoft, always with a subcontinental accents and English names. When I mention that I worked for 45 years in IT they hang up. My brother asked some good friends to tell him the most vile obscene insults in Hindi which he then wrote down next to his telephone in phonetics. He tells me that it works well too.
Same thing here. I wanted to tell him that I’d happily meet him on a country road and pay him cash…
They have been calling me frequently. Actually, I made a mistake one day and answered it (old eyes, I thought it was a local). They hung up immediately.
Go figure.
Yeah, I had a similar call about a year ago. Searched for “IRS call owe money” or something and found others getting the same scam-call.
This might have been the group behind your call.
