Trump UN Speech

As I noted in comments here:

I watched it on Right Side Broadcasting Network via Youtube via Roku. Why? I was too lazy to get out of bed and turn on the Chromebox to get a browser and YouTube… so while watching Fox News, and waiting, I used the Roku remote to check out Youtube search, and a search on “Right Side” pulled it up and “Bob’s Yer Uncle…”…

In general, the speech had an overtone of Nationalism, but sugar coated in a way that even some in the Globalist UN could not avoid liking, so he got some applause on the point of everyone needs to be advocating for their Nation. He called out Venezuela and North Korea in a particularly effective way. For Venezuela saying their failure was not from poorly implemented Socialism, but from faithfully implemented Socialism… Then quite a ‘titter’ went through the audience ;-) For North Korea he stated that they need to back of the nuclear threats or the USA would be forced to “totally destroy North Korea”. It was a joy to watch so many professional liars squirm in their seats when confronted with bold bald truth…

Yes, indeed, it was a joy to watch so many professional liars squirm in their seats when confronted with bold bald truth…

Nationalism vs. global governance seemed to upset a lot of folks, even if stated indirectly.

I have not heard the speech yet, just the out takes on Glen Beck. I have to run to HQ, so will have to wait to listen to it all. But from the bits I have heard. it sounded great! (Beck was whining again, that is how you know it is good!).

  4. Jon K. says:

Wow! What a breath of fresh air having someone with enough cojones to stand up and speak truth, even when it offends some. It’s been a while since a speech inspired me, but this one did.

Couldn/t watch it, old computah says ‘no’ had to read it so missed the
    audience reaction.

Liked the bit … for too long the American people were told that multinational
trade deals, unaccountable powerful global bureaucracies were the best
way to create prosperity but as the promises flowed, millions of jobs and
and thousand of factories were lost and the middle class, bedrock of American
prosperity, was forgotten and left behind… but they will be forgotten no more.

‘Powerful bureaucracies, ‘ A reminder of Reagan’s ‘We’re from the government
and we’re here to help you.’

A $40 Roku and HDTV gives you great Youtube viewing. Or a $179 or so Cromebook or Chromebox.

I have started using the Roku for Youtube, and while the navigation is crude (no keyboard) it works well. The Chromebox works very well as a dedicated video and media station. Mediocre for usual computer things like editing files and spreadsheets but workable. Just remember Google is watching you….

I’ve found the set of capabilities from those two plus Pi M3 to be a very nice blend and even the combined cost is quite low. The best thing is that after several years (5 ish? for the Chromebox) All of them still do their original jobs well. No Microsoft Code Bloat to make them useless or broken…

For occasional Youtube plus TV the Roku is your minimal entry point ($25 for the optical remote one, $40 for the radio remote). Much cheaper than a new computer…

It’s encouraging to have someone like Trump as President. But just about all the rest of the political class is dedicated to keeping billions rolling in to the billionaires while the rest of us and our kids rot.

Saw the speech on Fox Business. Well crafted and delivered. Even got a couple of applause events. Very rare at the UN.

Watching a news cycle of CNN, MSNBC, France 24, Sky News, et. al. they have clearly watched Some Other Speech… If all you watched was that news, you would think Trump had announced a declaration of war on N. Korea claiming its utter destruction was imminent and that the whole speech was full of “hate speech” and that he was seen as a pontificating buffoon by the UN Assembly. (Yet they praise socialist folks who are those things when they give a speech…)

It really is a stunning level of spin.

On CNN Christine? Ammanpour was going to lengths to say how horrid it was that Trump didn’t devote any time to denouncing Russia for corrupting the election and annexing Crimea; so he’s even being criticized for failure to spout Left Wing Talking Points! What a crock.

And they wonder why nobody listens to them anymore…
(‘Cause I saw the damn speech myself already and their blatant propaganda spin is nauseating…)

    Oh Well.

Your most welcome. Since I bought all those toys, might as well pass on my experience. IMHO, at this point, to buy a MicroSoft upgrade just to replace some normal function like Video that they have broken (or allowed to break by non-upgrade) seems very much a waste of money. Enough alternatives exist that are very cheap that you can just buy that one function.

Frankly, now that I know my failure to get YouTube Video sound from the Pi was due to a HDMI to DVI Adapter, I’m much less cranky about a DIY video solution. I’m too far behind at the moment to take on a new project, but “someday” I’m going to revisit using the Pi M3 or an Odroid as a Media Center. Lots of folks seem to have Kodi running. That would give a full fledged media center machine for about $50. (Then again, the Roku is cheaper and works fine without fuss, you just have to search in a clumsy way, pecking out one character at at time with right-left-up-own CLICK buttons on an alphabet box) So “someday” I’ll have a Chromebox replacement for about 1/3 to 1/4 the cost. For now, already having the Chromebox as media center, I can’t justify the time to work out the Kodi configuration stuff.

Christine Lagarde is on CBS This Morning dissing Trump’s speech. This after the UN has had decades to deal with NK and hasn’t. She is advocating sanctions, even though history shows those can’t be enforced. China and Russia will supply NK no matter what the US or UN applies in the way of sanctions. Too little, too late, too stupid.
