Billionaire George Soros Is Backing a Massive Campaign for a Second Brexit Vote. But Does It Stand a Chance?
By Natasha Bach 7:08 AM EDT
Brexit won’t happen if billionaire philanthropist George Soros has anything to say about it.
Soros announced Tuesday that Best For Britain, a campaign to secure a second referendum on whether the U.K. should leave the EU, will launch its ‘manifesto’ on June 8. The manifesto will reportedly include a roadmap for stopping Brexit.
Well, a “manifesto”, how 1930s… Wonder where he got the idea… Mein Kampf or Marx? I’m always a bit worried by Europeans with a lust for power issuing “manifestos”…
The campaign, which was created by Gina Miller last year, has already received millions of pounds in donations according to The Guardian, including £500,000 (approx. $663,000) from Soros. It aims to persuade members of parliament to require a new referendum on the final withdrawal deal. In order to do so, it will focus on engaging with voters, and Brussels as well.
So how much public opinion (and one presumes, votes) can a Billionaire buy? Expect a “bums rush” of advertising and “organizing”…
In a speech at the European Council on Foreign Relations, a think tank Soros helped found, the billionaire said that “Best for Britain fought for, and helped to win, a meaningful parliamentary vote which includes the option of not leaving at all.”
So the weasel was behind the move to bypass the people with a big leverage of parliament. Wonder how much that cost? Might be interesting to look at “contributions” and “actions” around that time to see who was bought “influenced”…
“But the British public must express its support by a convincing margin in order to be taken seriously by Europe. That’s what the Best for Britain is aiming for by engaging the electorate,” he continued.
Oh, I see. A “yes” vote was not convincing but a “no” vote will be convincing. Got it. Heads I win, tails we flip again…
Soros explained that “Brexit is an immensely damaging process, harmful to both sides.” While he acknowledged that “it’s up to the British people to decide what they want to do,” he pointed out that “it would be better…if they came to a decision sooner rather than later.”
One might be excused for thinking that the people HAD already “come to a decision” and that it was over a year ago. But now we know that wasn’t a “decision”, that was a call for a “do over” of the vote… /sarc;
Despite supporting the U.K. remaining in the EU, Soros did concede that the EU is facing “an existential crisis,” due in no small part to the ongoing political crisis in Italy. He therefore argued that “the EU needs to transform itself into an association which nations like Britain would want to join.”
So the Italians have seen how damaging this is for them, too, and are edging toward an escape from the EU shackles and his answer is to put lipstick on this pig “transform” the EU to make it look prettier to the Italians.
IMHO, he’s a manipulative SOB who is interested in non-democratic political organizations to: do to the people what they need (in his opinion) but don’t want. Nice paternalism there Soros… and thinks democracy is great as long as you get to apply enough money to get the ‘right’ outcome…
Britain needs to find a way to eject Soros AND his manipulative “Foundations” from their political process. By my count now we’ve had 3 nations already do so. India, Hungary, and Russia.

Open Society Foundations Withdraws from Hungary After Orban’s ‘Repressive’ Anti-Soros Crackdown
by Virginia Hale 15 May 2018
Globalist billionaire George Soros’s international grantmaking network is closing its Hungary office and will relocate to Germany in response to the government’s crackdown on foreign-funded NGOs.
“Faced with an increasingly repressive political and legal environment in Hungary, the Open Society Foundations (OSF) are moving their Budapest-based international operations and staff to the German capital, Berlin,” the network confirmed in a statement on Tuesday.
The decision to shut down operations in Hungary comes as Prime Minister Viktor Orbán “prepares to impose further restrictions on nongovernmental organisations through what it has branded its ‘Stop Soros’ package of legislation”, according to the statement.Hitting out at the proposals, which would tax foreign NGO income and clamp down on so-called civil society efforts to promote illegal immigration, OSF President Patrick Gaspard blasted Budapest for “using tactics unprecedented in the history of the European Union” to “denigrate” and “repress” the group’s work.
As well as bemoaning “burdensome” transparency requirements on funding from abroad, the group registered its particular anger over measures in the package invoking national security interests, such as rules which would require NGOs working with asylum seekers to be licensed by the government.
We all know how “burdensome” it can be to be exposed required to report who’s your Sugar Daddy… Another video report I saw said Soros had transferred $18 Billion to his Foundations (the bulk of his wealth) so as to assure these manipulations continue long after his passing.
[…]
Pointing to recent meetings in Brussels between the Hungarian-born financier and high-level EU representatives, the government has said it is “crystal clear” that Soros remains committed to subverting politics, including his goal of flooding Europe with third world migrants, despite a landslide victory for Fidesz earlier this year giving a massive mandate to the party to stop plans to make the nation “multicultural”.
So now you know what a few $Billion can buy in the way of destruction of nations and national character. Soros wants you to have a few Million non-nationals with little skill other than killing and bomb making and no connection to your language, history, and values; well then, you will by God take them.
Looks like his recruitment and propaganda operation may need to re-candle to somewhere he controls more as well:
Liberal Hungarian university warns Viktor Orbán could force it abroad
Michael Ignatieff of Budapest-based Central European University says institution has been left in limbo after Viktor Orbán questioned its legal status
Central European University is prepared to move its base of operations out of Hungary if the government of Viktor Orbán does not sign a deal to legalise its status soon, its rector has said.
“We can’t go into another academic year like this. We’re in a holding pattern but it’s not going to go on too much longer,” said Michael Ignatieff, CEU’s rector and a former liberal politician in his native Canada, in an interview at the CEU campus in Budapest.
See, despite claims that it is based in Budapest, it is legally chartered in the USA. (New York, IIRC). So it is legally a foreign University in Hungary. The “horrible” thing Hungary is doing? Requiring that if almost every single part of your operation is in Hungary, you register as a Hungarian University with a Hungarian charter and subject to a little bit of local inspection and local laws. Basically, closing the door on the end-run around EU / Hungarian law by having a dummy headquarters in a soft legal location abroad.
I found this bit precious:
The Budapest-based university is often seen as a bastion of liberalism, where thousands of students from across central Europe and the former Soviet Union have a received a world-class education in English over the past two decades.
The reality is more that it’s a great way for Soros to recruit and indoctrinate a large body of “useless idiots” to his cause while issuing them papers to get entre to sources of income and control via his diplomas. Think of it as his “Minions” factory. (At least, that’s my opinion.)
Hungary’s new parliament is expected to pass the so-called “Stop Soros” legislation in the coming weeks. The bill is targeted at what the government claims is a campaign by the Hungarian-born American financier George Soros to undermine the country and promote immigration. Civil society groups say it will make the work of NGOs dealing with migration issues impossible.
IMHO, a few dozen more countries need to do just that too. Soros’s goal is nothing less than the destruction of your nations and replacing them with his vision of a One World Grey Goo of Minions.
But that’s just my opinion… I could be wrong. (For example, he may want everyone to just die… as in “No, Mr. Bond, I want you to die.” Evil manipulative villains can be like that some times.)

That is exactly the thing that I would do if I could. Then move those people into positions in higher education and media. Shock troops to fundamentally change the body politic of the world…pg
The best politicians money can buy still seem pretty inept.
I look at the BBC website, and it’s interesting that when there’s some article to do with Brexit the voting on the comments now seems to produce around a 2:1 ratio in favour of Brexit, whereas it used to be around even a couple of years ago. This is eyeballing, not counting votes, and of course it’s a self-selected sample of people who comment on the BBC (I don’t).
Judging by the votes, it looks like Italy is around evenly split as to whether or not they want to be in Euroland. Hard to tell with the Greeks since no-one dares ask them. For both countries, the large debt they’d leave would take a while to pay off, and no doubt they’d be reminded of it every day if they were to run a referendum.
The European Union was proposed as a way to end the wars that were always erupting. For that purpose, it’s worked well. The problem is the structure, since so many disparate regions can’t all run the same economic structures without winners and losers. Germany seems to be winning, and the Southern countries seem to be losing. Eastern Europe is getting money pumped in to bring them up to standards, and those with money are paying for it (which largely includes the German people and of course the British). France is about breaking even, as I see it, with the agriculture receiving money and the industry giving it.
From my point of view, the free trade area and the commonality of business rules is useful – better if that had been how it had remained. The large budgets, however, mean that large (and wasteful) projects become the norm – it’s somebody else’s pocket that’s paying. With that free trade area, the “coming together” of all the countries would happen naturally over generational timescales – no need to push it or hurry it. Instead, there’s been a push to do that much faster, and to try to do it all in one generation.
Euroland was always susceptible to a change in government (and changed policies) in any of the joined countries. I’m surprised it hasn’t happened before.
As I see things, if you gave people a free vote on Europe the way it now is they’d vote against it. Macron admitted that the French probably would do so. The only way to make it work is to deny people the chance to vote (as with Catalonia) and if there _is_ a vote to put a lot of money into persuasion that It Will Be Really Bad For You To Leave. Nice to know who financed Gina Miller’s legal challenge, though. It seems that the more money you have, the more the Law agrees with you….
I kind of get Soros’ goal (die or domination – he is the max manipulator). What I do not get is all the “splody heads” that are following him! Apparently no one followed the edenic world of the Khmer Rouge and Pol Pot.
useful idiots? No, more like Social Darwinism playing out before our eyes.
Somebody needs to tell Nigel Farage that he needs to get back in the fight ’cause it ain’t over until the Fat Lady Sings while stomping on the Hungarian Dwarf Troll…
Soros is trying to be the Troll under the bridge to Brexit with the 3 questions and there needs to be a strong Knight to toss him into the gorge…
I do not for my life understand how the general public can discuss “the deep state” without recourse to the best metaphorical and illustrative lessons available — BBC’s “Yes Minister” and “Yes, Prime Minister”
In the 1984 (What other year could have been as appropriate?) Xmas Special run up to the second series, Minister Hacker is (love the name) being groomed for the top job. The senior unelected bureaucrat, Sir Arnold, is retiring and Hacker’s cabinet secretary, Sir Humphrey, is attempting to take over that — again, unelected — job.
First lines: Sir Humphrey: “How are things at the Campaign for the Freedom of Information, by the way?”
Sir Arnold: “Sorry, I cannot talk about that.”
So to secure Arnold’s support Humphrey very delicately figures out what kind of post-government “job” Arnold wants, makes the promise, and the deal is done. (Too bad this isn’t there. https://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/2013/01/28/revolving-door-government-ethics/1868597/ )\
Then the two senior-most unelected, supposedly neutral, state employees consider the upcoming election. Arnold asks if the next PM will be the current Chancellor of the Exchequer (Sec. Treasury) or the current Foreign Secretary. (Sec. State). He also advises Humphrey to check out the MI5 (FBI) backgrounds on both men. Which can be used to blackmail or manipulate them … but, better still, the idea occurs that both men can be blackmailed into withdrawing from the race. To be replaced with Jim Hacker. They script Hacker’s campaign:
Make sure that your Minister does nothing incisive or divisive over the next few weeks. Avoids anything controversial. Expresses no firm opinion about anything at all. Now, is that quite clear?”
Bernard “Yes, well, I think that is probably what he was planning to do anyway.”
ANYHOW, the Arnold/Humphrey/ (and Bernard) team basically ARE the Deep State, which was so well known to exist even 35 years ago that jokes were routinely made. How can we now even try to claim the idea is stuff of conspiracies?
Oh, there is a C-64 game where the player “emulates” Jim Hacker’s experiences in running the British Empire. Runs in emulators of various sorts.
@Pouncer:
Well, I suspect we in the USA were OK thinking that was how Britain worked, but were smugly sure it was not the way the USA worked… (Despite JFK likely being ‘disposed’ by a CIA / Mafia consortium and despite the known corruption of places like Chicago and NYC…)
Now even the most “willfully unaware” have trouble denying it exists here, too.
Mule-Ear needs to be investigating Soros, not Trump.
The old “this time it is different” or “not here” problem.
Corruption grows so slowly it is easy to be willfully blind to it unless it directly impacts you.
I remember back in the 1960’s we had a police scandal here in Denver, where there were a handful of cops which were actually committing burglaries. The public was just appalled, that sort of thing just doesn’t happen here. Then a few years ago a popular high profile sheriff was suddenly outed for pushing drugs to adolescent boys for sex. Again no one could believe it had been going on for years but between that wilful blindness an his public persona stature it was just unthinkable so no one went there.
The thing that broke the case wide open is he tried to intimidate the wrong kid and the kid went public with it instead of trying to go through the system.
It is at our peril that we forget human nature is a constant and there will always be those who abuse authority for their own gain or agenda, and the best government is the smallest government that can meet essential needs.
Soros is persona non grata in Russia and India. It’s amazing how evil bastards can buy off most countries they are trying to destroy with just a couple of billion dollars.
Russia, I understand. I don’t know how India got a clue, but they did.
@H.R.:
Might be part of a general Hindu push to oust others:

(That site has annoying persistent pop-ups BTW…)
So maybe just caught up in the broad net of kicking out all sorts of foreign influences…

Re “It seems that the more money you have, the more the Law agrees with you….”
Known here as the “Quid pro quo – more quid more quo”
(Quid being slang for a pound)
I might add that it is not without some reason that a country might want to kick his ass to the curb. He’s rather fond of sponsoring private “regime change” operations…

So if you don’t mind the little Troll Master fomenting regime change and making your country safe for Globalization, invite him and his NGOs right on in…

and on and on…
@E.M.: I saw the Soros/India bit in a comment on the Treehouse. They didn’t provide the complete context as you did, so I’d agree, it’s more about Hindu than anything in particular about Soros.
Rich Evil Bastards; what would the world be like without them? Hmmm… do-gooders would then try to take over the world. Perhaps we might just be better off with the Evil Bastards.
It has long been the policy of the Democratic Party, “It is not who votes that counts. It is who counts the votes that counts.” RINOs were created to help Democrats oversee the vote count…pg
Actually that is a truism stated by Stalin, but that is a distinction without a difference, the Communist Party of the USSR is not that far from where the Progressive Democrats are currently trying to go.
In my 50th Edition Serf Under _Ground Journal I write about Soros’ Manifesto, his
book written in 2000, ‘Open Society, Reforming Global Capitalism.’ Soros must be
heavily into irony, ‘democracy’ and ‘open’ society is just what Soros is aiming to bring
down. ‘Open,’ in his Manifesto, can only refer to his ‘open’ borders policy to create
chaos and undermine national sovereignty. He states his enmity to national states in
his book. He wants a supra-state global society. and through his funding of educational institutions he’s inculcating the values to bring it about.
Soros is promoting the necessary value system and training of social justice warriors at
his own University, the Central European University and at the progressivist Bard College,
both high in his list of grantees. Soros’ Education for Utopia, a student make-over,
kinda’ like Plato’s philosopher-king-training involving the ‘noble’ lie.
Soros has spent more than $400 million world-wide to promote left-liberal, and in some
cases extremist causes. One course at CEU incorporated lessons for the Occupy
movement, in my blog post on Soros I include a video of CEU Program Director for
the Environmental Sciences, Tamara Steger, with a slide behind that says ‘How to
occupy people’s heads with your message.’
Programs at Bard include a Palestinian youth group and an initative to educate
prisoners across the country. The Bard Trustee Leader –Scholar program, Soros
funded, is a program that ‘encourages and supports students to do challenging, even
brazen acts of world change.’
Read about it at https://www.theblaze.com/news/2012/06/04/special-report-george-soros-godfather-of-the-left
Soros Open Society Foundation has granted $407,790,344, to higher education since
the year 2000. Together CEU and Bard received roughly 75% of Soros’ total contribution,
Ivy League schools including Harvard, Columbia and Yale also received funding.
@Beth – As we all know here, “Hope is not a Strategy” ~E.M. Smith, never the less, I’m hoping that Soros will be pushing up daisies soon and his progeny will quickly piss away his fortune.
H.R. Unfortunately, he’s investing much of his fortune in his ‘worthy ‘ causes.

How about UN “Population Replacement” policy?
And guess what we’re all going to be replaced with?
Of course, under EU rule this is already occurring in Europe, particularly in Sweden and Germany.
As a citizen of the UK, you can’t imagine how much I envy you Cousins your Second Amendment.
Looks like you’re going to need it,
The obvious question I have been pondering is will we be seeing systematic “white flight” from the traditional Caucasian cultures of the EU and UK to America (and perhaps to Poland and Hungary) (we already have it happening from South Africa) as this effort to replace traditional European populations with mass migration continues.
The population aging problem could be easily reversed by simply promoting large families and encouraging child bearing – but that is not going to happen because it flies in direct opposition to the lefts efforts to stigmatize motherhood and children along with “choice” by young fertile women in favor of participation in the work force rather than raising the next generation of well developed and socialized adults.
