    Here you got Beth the image itself:

    @Beth:

    At some sites you need to “right click” on the image and choose to open just the image to get to the jpg image link itself. It’s OK to post just a link to an article or site (and some sites make it hard to get the actual link to the image), so this is just an FYI “howto” not a complaint ;-)

    I’m coming to really really hate Pottering…. I’m once again in PuseAudio Hell as the Odroid C2 that DID play sound the last time I booted it now refuses and Once Again I’ve got a volume meter showing it’s playing my favorite Sprintime clip and that sound IS there BUT it is all going to the “audio plug” and not out the HDMI and there’s not a damn thing I did to change it nor any visible way to get it back.

    Pottering needs to be removed from any influence on Linux and placed in charge of the janitors at Red Hat…

    Thx EM for the FYI , Larry for image up.
    Gee tomomason, you were lucky to get this, ‘Springtime for you know who..’. I had it on my 19th serf Edition on the Divine Comedy and recently it disappeared.

  8. tom0mason says:

    E.M.Smith,
    Funnily I’ve just had the same problems after an update. Took me all day to get it going with setting and resetting configurations (ALSA and Pulse).
    Sorry I can help with what got it going as I’m not too sure what I’ve done 8-( .
    Why has Linux made audio configuration such a PITA?

    @beththeserf
    Mel Brooks and Gene Wilder were the perfect comedy partnership.

  9. beththeserf says:

    tomomason, MB and GW, yes purfect partnership. Springtime, one of the funniest shows evah! Yu wouldn’t even be allowed to do it today. Not even ‘Get Smart’ and ‘the Cone of Silence.’ ) There’s anuther cone of silence operating today. https://beththeserf.wordpress.com/2014/08/30/19th-edition-serf-under_ground-journal/

    Like Tom, I have hit this too.
    You can “force” it by using a HDMI hotplug event, but I don’t recall the details (and it’s likely different for ARM and x86 anyway… arg!)

  14. E.M.Smith says:

    As to the question of “Why Linux got so bad”… it isn’t Linux. It is Pottering. He wrote both the Pulse Audio code AND the systemD stuff and LOVES complexity, hates “the Unix Way”…

    He’s one of those folks who has a very high “Dick With Factor” and leaves a trail of “issues” behind him as he “fixes everything that isn’t broke”…

    @Chiefio,
    ““fixes everything that isn’t broke”
    I knew someone like that. The trouble is that they spread all kinds of confusion and you can’t persuade them to stop.
