Whereas the People Of Hong Kong want freedom and liberty, yet are oppressed by the Communist PRC, and Whereas we, the USA are struggling with the damage caused by the Chinese PRC driven global pandemic of the Chinese Wuhan Covid CCP virus: we have common cause each with the other.
I propose that upon petition by Hong Kong after a vote of their people, we extend to them the status of Fifty First State of the United States Of America. With all the freedoms and protections that includes.
It is only fair, and THAT is the American Way.
Neither Britain nor China gave Hong Kong a choice in their future. I say we let them vote to join us, or not.
Perhaps a similar offer to the free nation of Taiwan could be in order.
2 more democrat senators. Yea, that will help.
Great idea, Chinese have tremendous work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit.
Alternatively offer all chinese females and well educated males under age 35 citizenship in the west – we can share them around our countries. Let them vote with their feet.
@Foyle: that is what canada did… automatic citizenship if you came with 500k $CA. You should see the neigborhood that grew up the hillside nort of the bay in Vancouver during that period.
They share the free enterprise culture, they’re yr cousins. Makes sense to bring in those who ain’t the enemy of the American Constitution, Makes no sense to open yr borders to those whose culture is its antithesis.
I suspect that most Hong kong people simply want to be left alone to get on with their lives, free of the CCP.
As for the suggestion that HK become the 51 state of the USA, I don’t think they are interested. After all HK has responded quite effectively to this new CCP virus and disease.
Whereas the USA has not.
Nope. Not yet, it needs marinated first, before cooking, Just sayin
Re Hong Kong – After a 99-year lease to the Brits and a non-contested handover to the CCP, I would think China might take a dim view of Hong Kong being added to the U.S.
China would no doubt raise a fuss and it would not go well for those in Hong Kong who voted to jump ship.
Just imagine NY voting to become a province of China.
Oh wait… they already are. I keep forgetting who is on the take from the CCP.
The HK thing would be a casus belli with China.
There are a couple of US ‘possessions’ which would probably expect priority if there was going to be a 51st state.
@Rhoda:
Only Puerto Rico has had interest in statehood. They had a vote and “stay a Commonwealth” won.
@HR – Perfect
Oh, and how ya gonna convince the HK folks that the high taxes and state control and welfare crap of the US Federal government is what they were looking for?
@Rhoda – perfect #2
