    How sad. Jesus wept.

    This is one of the great mysteries of life to me. Many of these conclusions are to most conservatives, libertarians and independents so slap you in the face obvious I really have difficulty deciding what the explanation is.

    For college educated progressives, they are either incredibly stupid (and got their degree under false pass them through) institutions, or are so brain washed, that they literally cannot see the obvious because it clashes with their dogma, or the most malicious con artists and predatory politicians imaginable.

    I can cut the nearly illiterate poor working class (and welfare class) in the cities a bit of slack that they literally do not have the education and understanding to grasp what is going on (and have been manipulated and brain washed into believing a fairy tale about reality) that diverts their anger and frustration at everyone but the actual architects of this failure.

    I cannot see any other long term outcome other than like a game of Jenga or a house of cards at some point some minor misstep will kick the props out from under it and it will all come crashing down, with a high likelihood of some serious violence as the poor gullible peasants finally realize that someone took them to the cleaners and they lash out at what ever convenient whipping boy that is in vogue at the time (not necessarily the actual engineers of their catastrophe)

    Here is hoping that the poor victimized masses in these big liberal cities can come through this without paying a terrible cost.

    The outcome could range from the Watts Riots – Rodney King riots to something far worse if the social restraints totally breakdown.

    Larry, it is no mystery. It is simply that the politicians know what they are doing – they just do not care. By the time the house of cards collapses, they will be long gone. They prop up the shell that has been gutted to make sure they are.

    We have seen it happen time and time again. from every corner of the earth. But socialists always promise that this time will be different. It never is. Until such time as there is a down side to decisions, things will not change. They try to protect us from the repercussions of bad decisions, but that only promotes more bad decisions. It is a death spiral (as the second gentleman said). And the end is the total collapse of the society. Be it a city, or a nation. Venezuela is in the final stages.

    I think it is just a mix of the various “Deadly Sins”.

    Sloth in that it’s hard to fix and easy to just kick down the road and ignore, hoping you are granted a seat and it’s the next guy standing when the music stops.

    Fear in that shutting off the borrow and spend money spigot gets lots of folks after your scalp.

    Greed in that you can get $Millions of “donations” and “favors” if you keep the game afloat one more round.

    Envy in that you saw what all your predecessors got, so why piss in the punch bowl now.

    For some, Pride in that they don’t want to be painted as the failure when others managed to keep it “working”. “See, I’m just as good!”. Others, like “Moonbeam” Jerry Brown wanting a “legacy” as good as his Daddy’s (California water system) so building a “train to nowhere” with tax money.

    In short, we don’t have any moral and self-controlled “servants” in government any more. It’s all about the “juice” be that monetary or ego strokes.

    Oh, and the number of them tagged for “Sexual Harassment” lately shows that Lust is in the mix somewhere along the line…

  5. E.M.Smith says:

    Perhaps I could sum that up as “We have immoral government”, but I repeat myself…

    Re Russia:
    There are a number of suspicious minds in the UK who wonder if the “crisis” is just an excuse to say “we must stick together with our friends in the EU or the big bad bear will get us” so Brexit is cancelled.
    I note that Russia has supplied natural gas (directly and indirectly) all through ‘the beast from the east’ cold weather.

  7. beng135 says:

    EM, I agree about the sins. Break-down of ethics & morals. It’s pretty much SOP in many countries, but the US had resisted it for a (comparatively) extraordinary amount of time. But the time has pretty much run out.

  8. E.M.Smith says:

    @Beng135:

    It was our Puritanical & Calvinist & to some extent Baptist roots… Now fading under an onslaught of immigration and folks abandoning church. I figure one more generation and we’ll be as corrupt as the rest.

    @Graeme No.3:

    It’s hard not to think such things when we’ve had Wikileaks providing evidence for many very similar devious and underhanded things.
