The Return Of Sanity Begins… “Polite” Off The Table.

Some things never change. Others change, but slowly. Then there is the brittle failure of a strong stiff support, where reality suddenly shifts and collapse follows.

Knowing which one is coming at you is essential to surfing the changes of time.

It is my contention that “society” and “culture” are most often prone to longer slow changes, but when pushed too far too fast, breaks in “brittle failure”. Rather like a Newtonian Fluid, they flow if pushed slowly, but pushed fast and / or too hard, will fracture and break down. I think we are in just such a moment.

For decades, the old order of “Be polite” and “If you can’t say something nice don’t say anything” ruled social order. I was raised with it. It is the foundation of the only really hard rule I have for “running the blog”: No insults to the person. You can disparage all the Public Persons and Political Folly that you like. You can call companies names and ‘talk dirt’ about them, but do not insult others visiting the blog. Related is a “try not to use hard curse words”, but that is sometimes let go. It isn’t a rule, so much as a desire to try to stay close to R rated or less…

But, some years back, The Left decided to weaponize politeness. “We” had to accept all sorts of offensive behaviour as “we” had to be polite about it. Yet the forced asymmetry of The Left declared that They could become insulting and even violent at the drop of a political hat and decry us as all sorts of evil. (Often in new phony insult label terms, like “transphobe”. I have zero fear of “trans” anything. I do find it offensive when shoved at children, or when it forbids humor.)

For a decade or two the society at large just flowed with this push. Conforming to the New Demands and trying not to cause trouble. Then Cancel Culture arrived. The “Do As I Demand OR ELSE!” Gestapo of The Left. Fear diffused through the culture for a couple of years. That, IMHO, was when The Left pushed too hard. And a brittle failure happened.

The bulk of The People rejected this. Look at Goya. They sold mostly a few varieties of canned beans in my local store when their founder said he supported Trump. The Cancel Culture Mob attacked. But a strange thing happened… We The People emptied the shelves of anything with the Goya name on it. (I went to buy a can of beans and found the shelf sold out…). Now? From about 4 shelf feet of beans, the Goya section has expanded into a dozen products over as many feet. I now have Goya Adobo and several other spices. Goya canned ham in my pantry. Goya beans, canned and dried. Even Goya Pigeon Peas in a can (even though I don’t know how to use them…)

The scent was in the air, and ANY company where The Left announce a “boycott” was immediately met with a “buycott”. (I now own 2 or maybe 3 “My Pillow”s… and his product line expanded to sheets, slippers, and more.) The break had happened. Still being mostly polite about it, but “No!” was being said loudly with the wallet.

The Left didn’t catch the clue…

So yet more Trans-Crap was shoved at folks. We were herded into lock downs and home schooling as the schools closed. About 1/4 to 1/3 of folks refused the forced medication with an experimental mRNA jab (and I quit working part time supporting my dentist when his upstream Government Regulatory Body demanded a jab – something that was hard to do to someone I’d known as a friend for 40 years… first met at Karate Class…) The PUSH was on, and a lot of folks did not comply.

The hard core of resistance separated from the soft body of conformance and brittle fracture happened along that line. WE would not comply. The Newtonian Fluid had stiffened on one side. That line of stiffening has spread outward and is moving the line of fracture further every day. Even traditional Democrats are saying What The?

And at that moment, Budweiser stepped in it. The stresses in society were already full on. The Newtonian Core was hardened. The fracture line was showing, but not yet broken through. And just one tiny bit further bent, breaks the rod. I can’t think of a company better positioned to offend more people all at once than what had been THE largest beer brand. Yes, Disney was well on their way with their Woke Crap and people were “staying away in droves” (Disney Plus losing 4 million subscribers in one go); but they were pushing children & Moms – folks who are expected to be quiet and / or polite. But rough guys don’t need to be polite… and Momma Bear when pushed too far goes balistic.

In a flash, the incipient crack became a fracture moving through the whole body politic. The fluid portion reduced to a minor corner and the bulk of The People broke off from Woke Crap. Transweiser Bush became a meme, a butt of jokes, and they destroyed their brand forever. NO real guy will want to be seen drinking “tranny fluid” or holding a Gay Beer. Momma Bear found out what was being taught to her kids in school and showed up at School Board Meetings (and the FBI declared her a “terrorist”… marking the FBI as “enemy #1 of The People” and untrustworthy – something they have confirmed in hiding the Hunter Biden corruption)… Schools telling kids to have their genitals cut off is NOT why Mama sends her kids to school…

The thing about brittle failure is that not only is it sudden, but it is not “undoable”. A bent metal rod can be bent back. A glass rod bent too hard just fractures and there is no going back. You can only re-make it from scratch with a full melt and molding. It is a one way change to the future.

So where are we now?

Well, The People have suddenly realized they are not alone. That THEY are the large majority. The Left is just a squeaky annoying minority of too loud and often obnoxious turds. Best laughed at and ignored. How do I know this? Comedy has returned.

In this report, The Quartering shows a comedienne doing a show that “offends” some from The Left. They take offense and leave. BUT: The bulk of the audience is not offended, and laughs about them. The People have decided several important things:

1) We are not alone.
2) We are by far the majority.
3) The Left being offended is their natural state and irrelevant to me.
4) We Do NOT Care about them anymore.
5) It is FINE for us to be rude and impolite about it. This is war, after all.
6) To do good for most of us, we need to make a few enemies among the evil ones.
7) Laughing at insanity is OK.

This is clear from the way the comedienne handles the offended ones, and from the audience reaction.

There’s some quotes from one of the better thinkers in history that apply here.

https://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Charles_Mackay_%28author%29

Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one.
[…]
Every age has its peculiar folly; some scheme, project, or phantasy into which it plunges, spurred on either by the love of gain, the necessity of excitement, or the mere force of imitation. Failing in these, it has some madness, to which it is goaded by political or religious causes, or both combined.

We never did “go mad”. We just knuckled down to try and ride out the insanity. Now we’ve figured out most folks are like us, and it is the herd of the insane that is just making a lot of noise. THEY will need to recover “one by one”. Like Tom Hanks having shifted sides, or RFK Jr. coming out with sane ideas. One by One The Left leaning will need to remove themselves from the goo of the soft flowing amorphous left and come to the right side.

In the mean time, the bulk of society has stiffened up and formed up into a solid core of sanity. The Herd that stampeded off to Woke Land was largely the political and Uber Manager classes along with their organs of influence (like Teachers Unions and Universities). They will have in-group cohesion to overcome to one by one return to reality. All while the bulk of the 4-wheeling, boat driving, and Mamma Bear types are busy having a Reality Party (with anything but Butt Lite…). The party is on, and we are not playing by their rules anymore.

He who has mingled in the fray of duty that the brave endure must have made foes. If you have none, small is the work that you have done. … You’ve been a coward in the fight.

It is not “disinformation”, it is lying.
It is not “malinformation”, it is propaganda.
It is not “misinformation”, it is being wrong.

Saying I’m speaking “misinformation” makes it harder to say “NO, I am speaking truth. What I say is RIGHT as opposed to WRONG”. Saying “I am wrong” invites the response “No, I am right, here is my evidence.” Do NOT let THEM change your language. Do not embrace their madness.

It is not “Pride Week” (or is it a month now?). It is “Buggery Week” as that is what they are celebrating.

It is not “being intolerant” (they can do what they want in private) to insist on keeping sexuality (of all kinds…) out of grammar schools. It is recognizing the need for an innocent childhood.

It is not “transphobic” to want children left intact until AFTER puberty. It is natural. Similarly there will be no girl’s or women’s sports if biological men are allowed to dominate them. Guys with penises and balls ought not be in “women’s spaces”. That’s “creepy” and “threatening” not “transphobic”. Do not let “transphobic” justify or replace “perversion”.

Finally, one big surprise. I’ve stated a few times that modern Russia is a European Christian Nation. I’d known that Putin rebuilt churches across Russia. I did not know the magnitude of it. This video has excerpts from a speech Putin made about Christianity in Russia vs perversion in the West. Note the Orthodox Clergy in the audience.

But now I know why the GEBs want Russia destroyed. Putin is busy preventing their perversion from corrupting Russian culture. I’d like to find the whole speech somewhere, but I’m not sure where to start looking. Maybe after breakfast ;-)

So bear in mind that there are many large countries that have rejected the GEBs Woke Crap. Russia, China, India, and a lot of the Global South (Hispanic Catholics for example). Realize that the Euro-GEBs are strongest in the Anglo-Saxon West (even having trouble in European nations like Hungary, Italy, and others).

A large part of the world is “on our side” in the culture war to preserve natural sanity. Keep a “Tidy Mind”, laugh at the insanity, enjoy the memes, and make a few selected enemies in all the right places. It’s OK ;-) and it’s getting better.

Here’s an immortal tune updated in (dis)honor of AB-InBev and their finding out that Woke leads to broke :)

[though I have a REAL hard time classifying Bud Lite as a beer, not even near beer]…

    Worth repeating:
It is not “disinformation”, it is lying.
It is not “malinformation”, it is propaganda.
It is not “misinformation”, it is being wrong.

The left has a (wayward) way with words.

“The Oak and the Reed is one of Aesop’s Fables”
“There are early Greek versions of this fable and a 5th-century Latin version by Avianus. They deal with the contrasting behaviour of the oak, which trusts in its strength to withstand the storm and is blown over, and the reed that ‘bends with the wind’ and so survives.”
“there is an overlap here with ancient Eastern proverbs. In its Chinese form, ‘A tree that is unbending is easily broken’, it is found in the religious classic, the Tao Te Ching”
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Oak_and_the_Reed

“The green reed which bends in the wind is stronger than the mighty oak which breaks in a storm.”
    ― Confucius

Like a man being mugged in a meadow.
    First we respond with disbelief.
    And then doubt our senses.
    And now?
Well they declared war on me and mine.
I never sought to push these losers around.

In an astonishing turn of events, the non tool using segment of society..Those who are utterly dependent on the good will of productive people everywhere, have declared war upon their benefactors..
First we stagger in disbelief, asking”Are they really that stupid”?

Then we examine the evidence, the actions and the result of those actions from our Progressive Comrades.

    Conclusion?
    Yes.
    They really are that stupid.
And now we begin to play.
They are really not going to enjoy having their “New Rules” applied to themselves.
    Human Nature seems unchanging..
Our “Helpers and Do-Gooders” seem to ignore this truth.

  5. cdquarles says:

While I don’t agree with every part of Ayn Rand’s philosophy, she did nail parts of human nature. There are those who are makers. There are those who are takers. Be a maker as much as you can and not a taker. Trade value for value where both sides agree that they serve themselves by serving others.

The PC “woke” propagators are simply evil. What they are doing to children, famlies and cultures is willful and purposeful destruction. The trans movement is destroying lives and happiness.

“To achieve world government, it is necessary to remove from the minds of men their individualism, loyalty to family, tradition, national patriotism and religious dogmas.”

  8. David A says:

A few more to illustrate their tyrannical insanity…

“The United Nations could become a comprehensive Planetary Regime which could control the distribution of all natural resources.. and all food on the international market.” – Former President Obama’s Science Czar, John Holdren

”Global Sustainability requires the deliberate quest of poverty, reduced resource consumption and set levels of mortality control.” Professor Maurice King

”Unless we announce disasters no one will listen.” Sir John Houghton, First chairman of the IPCC.

”Childbearing should be a punishable crime against society, unless the parents hold a government license. All potential parents should be required to use contraceptive chemicals, the government issuing antidotes to citizens chosen for childbearing.” David Brower, First Executive Director of the Sierra Club

“Politness’ for these folk is neither warranted or moral.

  9. Keith Macdonald says:

    @cdquarles
” There are those who are makers”

Amen to that. There’s a quiet sanity in being able to make and create things. Like being a gardener, making things grow. Both ground us in reality. I’m glad to say my children have the same hands-on approach. A few days ago, #1 Daughter made a telling remark about some colleagues of her own, in mild astonishment :
“They don’t know how to do anything!”

There are those that make things happen, those that just watch things happening, and those that wonder what happened. My guess on the spread of the population? 10% max, 45%, 45% or thereabouts.

For all, and for relaxation and inspiration (to make more), may I recommend a master of the art?

Chris is the same guy that’s recreated a working version of the Antikythera Mechanism. It’s a joy to watch him creating beautiful tools.

  10. E.M.Smith says:

    @Keith:

Thanks for that link! I’ll be watching a lot of how he does things…

FWIW, at about 7 to 9 years old, Dad was teaching me how to make tools. Yes, simple kid quality tools, but… First thing I “had” to do was turn a flat blade screw driver into a dog leg brake adjusting tool for a 56 Chevy. Next I had to make the flat blade out of a round iron stock. Then came annealing, hardening, and quenching. We talked about how to make a file, and I had to make a couple of cuts in some flat stock to show I knew just how hard it is … (you make hundreds of exactly parallel flat cuts with square edges, then harden the hell out of it so they cut… a plunge quench into horse piss, or any piss really, hardens it especially well with ‘natural nitriding’ of the surface). Annealing the spine of a knife with slow cooling while the edge is sunk into something to fast quench it gives a hard edge (but a bit brittle) with a pliant spine that prevents blade breaking.

I collected my canonical tool boxes on this last run to the storage unit. Now I need to organize them. It is largely just a 30 or so year accumulation of various things that slowly disbursed around the last home… in a half dozen tool boxes… so needs a good organizing. I’ve been waiting patiently for this day for over a year. All that time:

I’ve had the “hots” to buy a MIG welder. Just a little one. Last welding I did was about 50 years ago. Brass braising, and ‘stick welding’, along with some gas work about 20 years back. I had a complete set of gas gauges and gear that I gave to my Daughter’s Guy when leaving California. (He wants to make knives and that would be great for it). I’ve mostly done soldering since the ’80s.

At any rate, when I was learning to weld, MIG was brand new. We (students) were not allowed to touch it as the teacher was just learning it, unless we took an advanced unit placement… so I’ve wanted to do it ever since… With MIG welders now down in the $hundreds instead of $Thousands (and the $ being more of a dime now…) it isn’t a big cost item.

BUT: I don’t have anything that needs a welder… (why I didn’t haul my gas gear out here, in part…). I would just be welding together random bits of scrap for no reason other than doing it…

So before I can “scratch that itch”, I need to see some reason for it. Some process I want to do that needs welding. Just not there yet…

The thing is, as a smith from a working Smith Family (Granddad had a smithy on the farm and worked doing smithing for his Amish neighbors and relatives; and Dad learned from him and did his own smithing as needed) I was raised with the notion that it was essential to who we were: to be able to make things and create. Even starting with tooling. The notion of NOT knowing how to DIY is alien to me.

I find nothing quite so pleasant as learning Yet Another Ability. How to make another new thing. Thus my doing things like learning to make tools, furniture, explosives, cast bullets, cook, fix cars, assemble camping kits / survival packs, do programming, build computers, make radios from parts, paint houses, plumbing, do electrical wiring and such, roof sheds & houses, make a bound book from paper, make candles both cast and ‘assembled’ including home made wicks, etc. etc. I just do not understand people who can’t do such things and even worse, those who have no interest in “How To”.

I guess that puts me out at the edge of yet another bell curve…

I’m not “great” at a lot of those things, but I’m “pretty good”. A few I’d claim some mastery of. Computers, for example. Did that professionally for decades. Making candles of various kinds I’ve done since single digit years old. I’m a master of tube radios ;-) but didn’t make any from semiconductors other than single transistor jobs (moved to computers then…).

Painting I do pretty good, journeyman I’d say. Plumbing not so much; I do it but don’t like it and find fixing stuffed up things an exercise is frustration – not enough special tricks known, and then there is the “you might end up at the street” problem of repairing plumbing starting at the wall. The in-determinant nature of what breaks next in old pipes. Roofing I do very well for shingles and roll roofing, not done metal roofs. Electrical I’m quite good at, but don’t know the present NEC codes. On it goes.

You can learn the 80% to 90% of a craft that matters most in about 5% to 10% of the normal training time; but the last 10% can take years to decades… So “good enough” for day to day comes fast, but Master & Expert take decades. Oh Well.

I learn what I need to “get it done” for any given job, then move on. Probably a good thing… So recently I’ve been “furniture mover” and “furniture assembler” and “Delivery Van Driver” along with learning to tow car carriers ;-)

But I really would rather be learning to MIG weld…
